Personal Development
Voicing Self
This motivational workshop uses a variety of the arts (painting, poetry, music, collage, etc.) and self-expression to refresh and energize participants. The focus is on listening to one’s own voice and remembering the value of staying tuned to that voice, in spite of the many other “voices” clamoring for our attention (others’ needs, image, status, criticism, fears, and so on). We explore how to continue the practice of giving voice to Self even after the session is over, deepening the habit of everyday Self-expression.
Here I Stand: Mapping SelfFor individuals who are ready to begin the process of revealing the real self (solid self, authentic self), this work can build the foundation for ongoing responsible and conscientious thought and choice in an anxious world. The workshop offers participants a way to be more aware of and objective about their changing beliefs and relationships and to grow in the capacity to choose a steady course in life. Growth and self-understanding in mapping self affect one’s functioning in all of life’s relationships.
The Conscious BodyIn this workshop we use the body in motion to observe our own habits of attention and to experience transcendent awareness. Participants identify and observe where their attention goes as they move in habitual and non-habitual ways, practicing moving meditations and conscious embodiment. No prior training, knowledge, or physical ability is necessary. Workshop activities include breath practice, walking and standing meditations, and placements of attention. We can accommodate physical limitations; this workshop can be experienced from a seated position, if necessary, or with a limited range of motion.
Strategic Planning For LifeUsing a process parallel to strategic planning for organizations, participants envision and plan the lives they mean to live. This session launches the process of investing in the design of one’s life in order to live it by choice and not by chance. The workshop provides insightful, customized, and plain-spoken guidance to address five strategic questions, with tools designed to build upon the work after the workshop:
- Who am I?
- How am I doing?
- Where do I want to be?
- How will I get there?
- How will I hold myself accountable to this vision/plan?
The Enneagram is an ancient and powerful study of human personality that helps us understand the central themes in our own and others’ lives that influence our behavior patterns. This personality system explores why people think, feel and act as they do by examining our habits of attention, our patterns of attention, what we avoid, and how we behave in both stressful and secure circumstances. During this workshop, participants identify which of nine types they believe they are and listen to people who are examples of those types talk about the motivations and perceptions of the type.
Enneagram and RelationshipsThis workshop deepens the insights and knowledge from the Enneagram Foundation Workshop. It explores the ways in which our own personality can affect all of our relationships, even when we don’t mean it to! We will participate in various practices for noticing our personality type during interactions and setting our personality aside in order to work more from our essence, or true self. This workshop includes journaling, inner work, and role-playing. Participants have an opportunity to consider their own “hot buttons and blind spots” and to practice self-observation and awareness techniques for staying awake to the moment (especially during conflict with important others).
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Workshop (Step II)Using the MBTI Step II assessment, this workshop provides information on the basic concepts of Jung’s theory of psychological types and on the participants’ own scores and type characteristics. Participants are able to develop skills in observing their own and others’ behavior and in analyzing situations, gaining more active direction of their own lives.
Movement MeditationMovement meditation is using music, movement, and attention to experience awareness in the body, presence in feelings, and connection to self, others, and spirit. We will be performing simple, everyday movements that engage our full attention and bring about a meditative state. Our goal is to instill in ourselves a sense of deep curiosity and true inquiry into the nature of attention and relaxation, effort and receptivity, and mindfulness and joy. No special abilities or previous experience is necessary – just an interest in opening oneself to the present moment and to the pleasure of movement and music.
